Over the years we have been inspired by some famous Redheads.
Our Mum used to read the Anne of Green Gables books to us as young’ns and we loved her imagination and delight as well as her ability to get into scrapes and the way she spoke her mind. When the books were adapted into a mini-series we were not disappointed by Megan Follows (playing Anne) and the production of this beautifully shot tv show.
In the 80’s we enjoyed watching Molly Ringwald in the John Hughes films especially Pretty in Pink, though The Breakfast Club is great too. Molly’s character Andie broke one of the great fashion myths about Redheads not wearing Pink…fashion rules are meant to be broken…although her pink prom dress divides the critics.
In the 90’s Redheads were amongst our favourites songstresses. There was the delectable Lady Miss Kier from Deee-lite strutting her stuff in psychadelic pop land, the raw and haunting melodies of Tori Amos at her piano and Shirley Manson fronting band Garbage wearing plenty of black and oozing rock chic swagger. Meriel Barham from Lush also sported vibrant red hair and suddenly Fudge and other hair companies were supplying dye in all sorts of intense colours…whilst others preferred the natural hair colour dye Henna for an intense shade of red.
In 2007 Mad Men sent the TV world into a spin when Joan (Christina Hendricks) entered the screen…her vuluptious curves and amazing vintage style was topped only by her head of gorgeous red hair. Va Va Voom
Watching the stars walk the red carpet for the 2012 Oscars we thought there was one woman who knocked them dead with her red, red, dress (designed by Giambattista Valli) and her red, red hair… Emma Stone. Angelina’s leg didn’t stand a chance in our book.
Plus she was also the winner in our fashion stakes for her outfit at the Golden Globes this year (dress by Lanvin)
Those myths about Redheads not wearing Pink or Red should really be debunked… break those rules ladies
